There are New Year celebrations we remember more than others.
They come around once a year and we look forward to them with great anticipation. But for Carmen, the outcome of the night was something she never expected. It was a stormy night and Carmen had been cooped up inside all day. She was feeling restless and decided to take a walk. As she walked, the wind picked up and it started to rain. She wasn’t paying attention to where she was going.
Carmen ended up getting lost on New Year’s
She was cold, wet, and tired. She saw a light in the distance and started walking towards it. As she got closer, she realized it was a house. She knocked on the door and an old woman answered. Carmen explained her situation and the woman invited her in. The woman’s name was Mrs. Kwan. She was originally from China but had been living in America for many years. Mrs. Kwan offered Carmen some tea and they sat down to chat. Carmen told Mrs. Kwan about her life and how she was feeling lately. Mrs. Kwan listened attentively and offered words of wisdom when Carmen needed them most.
Carmen left Mrs. Kwan’s house that night feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. She had found what she was looking for: a sense of peace and understanding. Her best New Year’s ever.
It’s been said that the mind is like a garden.
If we take care of it, it will bloom. But if we neglect it, it will wither away. This is especially true when it comes to our mental health. The start of a new year is the perfect time to reflect on our mental state and make changes if necessary. We all go through rough patches in life, but it’s important to remember that we’re not alone. There are people out there who understand what we’re going through and are willing to help us get through it.
A recent research study showed that stress and depression are on the rise. This is likely due to the increasing demands of modern life. We are constantly bombarded with information and expectations. It can be overwhelming at times. But even in the midst of all this stress, we can find moments of peace. We can choose to focus on the good things in our lives and let go of the negative. This is not always easy, but it’s important for our mental health.
Professor Johnstone of the University of Edinburgh says:
It is essential that we find ways of relaxation and stress reduction that work for us as individuals.” He further noted that “For some people, this will be through exercise, for others it might be listening to music or spending time in nature.
Everyone is different and there is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to mental health. But the important thing is to find what works for you and stick with it. Whether it’s taking a walk in the park or sitting down for a cup of tea with a friend, make time for things that make you happy.
This year, let’s resolve to take care of our mental health. Let’s celebrate the good moments and let go of the bad!
