We Love New York City

When you drive down 5th Avenue, it is hard not to be in awe of the towering skyscrapers that make up the world’s most famous skyline. From Times Square to Central Park, there is always something to do and see in New York City. In fact, there are so many things to love about this amazing city that it can be hard to narrow it down to just three reasons. But here are our top three reasons why we simply adore NYC. There is no other city in the east coast with as much history as New York City. With over 400 years of history, the Big Apple has something for everyone. From world-famous landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building to hidden gems like the Tenement Museum, there is always something new to discover in NYC.

History of New York City

There are several versions of the history of New York City. The first recorded history of the city was in 1609 when Dutch explorer Henry Hudson sailed into what is now known as the Hudson River. The area that is now Manhattan was purchased from the Native Americans in 1626 by Peter Minuit. He named it New Amsterdam and it quickly became a thriving port city.

In 1664, the British took control of New Amsterdam and renamed it New York after James, Duke of York. The city continued to grow, and by 1800 it had reached its current size. Over the years, New York City has been home to some of America’s most famous historical figures, including Alexander Hamilton, Theodore Roosevelt, and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
